Tilting the Lens becomes a Living Wage Employer
Tilting the Lens is a global strategic accessibility consultancy and social enterprise with a mission to embed accessibility and inclusion into organisational systems, culture, and design. We are a majority disabled team of 7, based across Ireland, the UK and Germany.
We partner with disabled people, civil society, and the public and private sectors to improve recruitment, culture, communications, and design practices. Our work is grounded in legislation and lived experience, supporting organisations to move from compliance to belonging. We centre disabled voices as equal partners in building a more equitable and inclusive society.
Motivation for Living Wage Accreditation
At Tilting the Lens, we believe that equity must begin within our own workplace. Accrediting as a Living Wage Employer was a natural step in aligning our internal practices with our external mission — to build a more accessible, inclusive, and just society.
We work closely with organisations to embed accessibility and inclusion into their systems and culture, and we hold ourselves to the same standard. Fair pay is foundational to dignity and equity, and the Living Wage represents a baseline commitment to valuing the time, energy, and expertise of everyone we work with — from full-time employees to freelance collaborators.
Additional Workplace Changes
We didn't have to make additional workplace changes as we already had everything in place before applying for accreditation.
Challenges and Barriers
As Tilting the Lens is a fully remote team consisting of employees across Europe, including the UK, the only challenge was determining whether we were eligible for the accreditation.
The staff at Living Wage were quick to respond and extremely helpful in offering us advice and guidance throughout the process, and validating that we were eligible to apply.
Benefits of Living Wage Accreditation
Paying at least the real Living Wage is a fundamental expression of our values. It’s not just about fairness , it’s about dignity, respect, and recognising the real cost of living. As leaders, we have a responsibility to ensure our teams aren’t choosing between essentials. Committing to the Living Wage is one of the most practical and powerful ways we can show that we value the people who make our work possible.
Knowing that I am paid the real Living Wage — not as a bonus, but as a baseline — makes me feel genuinely valued. I’m grateful to work for a company that sees fair pay as a starting point, not a stretch. It sends a powerful message: that our wellbeing matters. That kind of recognition builds trust, reduces stress, and allows me to focus on my work and my family with a clearer head and a lighter heart.
