Promoting the interests and benefits of the unemployed and socially & economically disadvantaged groups. Provides education, training, advice and representation to the unemployed. Provides information and campaigns on the issues, problems and benefits affecting the unemployed. Promotes and conduct research into the causes of unemployment. Campaigns against and expose the broader issue of poverty.  Based in Belfast we work across NI and in border areas. We have 4 members of staff.

Motivation for Living Wage Accreditation

As a Trade union linked organisation, promoting the interests and benefits of the unemployed we felt it was important that we commit to the living wage agenda and actively support the agenda.

Implementation Process

We reviewed the wage of all staff and associated staff to ensure we were beyond the threshold for everyone.

Challenges and Barriers

As we knew internally that we were above the threshold, the need to sign up slipped down the agenda. Although we had always intended to sign up. Just being extremely busy made it slip and we finally agreed to bite the bullet and join the campaign.

Benefits of Living Wage Accreditation

It is important that the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre be seen to be actively supporting such a worthwhile endeavour and show commitment to our own staff and encourage other organisations to be part of the campaign.
