Advice NI Members’ Day at Springfield Charitable Association

Advice NI’s latest Members' Day was held at Springfield Charitable Association (SCA) in November with a fantastic turnout from members of the Independent Advice Network.

The overall theme of the event was Supporting Resilience and Wellbeing Across the Independent Advice Network. The Day was kicked off with an introduction from Advice NI’s Membership Support officer, Gavin Ferris. He was followed by Head of Membership, Arfawn Yasin, who launched the 2019 Advice NI Membership Feedback Report.

Next, Seonagh Gervin of the training team gave an overview of the varied training opportunities offered by Advice NI. She also made those in attendance aware of the risks and impact of cuts in training funding for volunteer advisers across the sector.

Guest speaker Aoife Hamilton of Employers for Childcare gave an excellent presentation on the importance of a work-life balance. She advised how to promote this culture and move away from presenteeism - attending work when you aren’t physically or mentally well.

Clare Cuthbert from Blue Moss then facilitated group workshops with members covering service delivery, administration, training needs, internal working environment and connectivity. Finally to finish off the event and as part of National Stress Awareness Day, a meditation and stress management session was delivered by Anne Ward from Xhale. The session included practical self-help tips and resources to draw on, including links to her YouTube channel for practical support.

Advice NI would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the Members’ Day. The next event will take place early in 2020
