Omagh Independent Advice Services to open a local telephone helpline support service over Christmas - Ulster Herald

With Christmas approaching the helpline will officially come into operation between the hours of 7-9pm from Tuesday, November 4.

The service will then operate on a weekly basis every Tuesday until the end of January.  The telephone number is 02882 243252.

This is an additional local service aimed at anyone wanting to seek advice on debt or financial difficulties who for whatever reason cannot come into the office.

Up until last year, a similar phone service was open two nights a week to to provide confidential advice and help to those suffering from debt.  However, it was closed due to funding being slashed.

Financial advice officer Michele Loughran said, "We felt this was a great loss to the community because people were able to ring and speak to a debt adviser anonymously."

"So we are delighted that we can run the helpline again at the start of November for one night a week."

"Christmas is a time of year that puts pressure on family life, particularly those with children.  So peopl should budget now to take some of the stress away.  Use the local shops offering Christmas clubs to buy toys and food as this will remove some of the stress and a better option to panic buying at Christmas with a pay day loan or credit card."

The debt advice line is open every Tuesday evening from 7-9pm by calling Omagh Independent Advice Services on 02882 243252.
