MSmythTell us about your job

The Business Relationship Manager role is to identify, develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to grow and integrate advice services across Northern Ireland. The key aim is to raise awareness of and promote the work that Advice NI does with the ultimate goal of increasing our reach of our services.

Why Advice NI?

I have had a longstanding connection to Advice NI since about 2005 and my time as a research assistant on the E-Consultation Study Group at QUB of which Patricia Donald was a member.  I was impressed by the forward thinking approach at Advice NI then, the willingness to adopt new technologies and work in different ways to provide the best possible services for those in need.

I came to work at Advice NI in 2016 as a Project Coordinator on a year long MAS “What works?” project within the Training team, managing an evaluated project that delivered financial capability training for people with mental health issues.  I enjoyed my time working on the project and made some great friends at Advice NI.  I knew when I applied for this job that Advice NI is a good place to work with a lot of nice people.

What’s the best part of your job?

Working across the whole organisation, meeting new people and getting a real sense of the work Advice NI does and the difference it makes to the people who need our help.

Tell me something about yourself that we don’t know

I’m scraping the barrel here because a lot of you know me quite well.. I’ve been a big Kate Bush fan since the age of about 7 In Primary three during a very austere school Christmas party (it was the 70s), I performed a solo rendition of her No 1 hit “Wuthering heights” which involved making screeching noises and throwing myself about a lot. I still do this occasionally when nobody is looking. I’m absolutely delighted that she’s topping the charts again … Babooshka!

What are you looking forward to most over the next year?

Getting settled into the new role and promoting our services.
