Rights for Carers

Advice NI, in partnership with the Special Educational Needs Advice Centre (SENAC), plan to support carers of children with learning difficulties to become more digitally included enabling them to engage with policy and decision makers and to access their rights and entitlements. Funded by the Department of Health, this project will support carers to learn the digital skills to go online safely and to access their rights and entitlements. We will be sharing more updates on this project in our next edition of Advice Matters.

Digital Inclusion Projects

Begin Together - Digi Money

Advice NI are delighted to have received a good level of interest from potential volunteers to join our Begin Together - Digi Money (phase two).

The project, which is funded by the Bank of Ireland, will involve volunteers from migrant communities who speak a language in addition to English. They will participate in digital skills training and will then cascade this learning by delivering digital support to those in their own communities. The overall aim is to help improve others basic digital skills and financial wellbeing. Interviews are ongoing with applicants and the new volunteers coming on board will complete a five- week training programme before delivering their own digital support in their local communities. This grassroots support will no doubt prove as valuable as phase one where a cohort of 14 volunteers completed the programme

Rights 4 Seniors

Over the last few months our Rights 4 Seniors Digital volunteers have been out delivering basic digital skills course in Belfast, Antrim and Derry. This programme, funded by Nationwide, focuses on delivering basic Digi Skills sessions to older people’s groups. The courses are delivered over a period of 5 weeks and focus on topics like how to use Zoom, getting online and staying safe, email and shopping online and are often a vital first step to tackling potential social isolation by helping people feel more confident and connected. We are now planning our Autumn courses and please do get in touch if you would like us to visit your seniors group or set up something in your local area. We want more and more seniors to benefit from learning about navigating the internet safely and securely.
