Job Opportunity - MacMillan Benefits Support Advisor

Community Advice Ards and North Down is seeking to recruit a MacMillan Benefits Support Advisor to provide advice, information and support people and their families who have been impacted by cancer.

Term: 1st August 2022 - 31st December 2024 (possible extension, subject To funding).

Location: Hybrid - Office at The Ulster Hospital, Dundonald and home working.

Salary: £27,514.00 per annum

Hours per week: 37

Reporting to: Manager, CAAND (Ards and Holywood)

Role Purpose

The post holder will;

  • Manage customer enquiries of a welfare support nature via a range of channels.
  • Assess the welfare support needs of customers and provide information, support and advice or signpost
  • Provide practical guidance on claiming specific benefits, including welfare eligibility checking, full benefits checks, grant eligibility assessment and processing of your own and external Macmillan grant applications.
  • Provide expertise on benefits income maximisation and the UK Benefits/Welfare system • Comply with industry quality standards (NI Advice quality standard adherence)
  • Work flexibly in a multi-channel environment to provide an efficient and effective service that meets the information and support needs (including emotional support needs) of customers, demonstrating understanding and empathy
  • Access available information and knowledge resources to respond to enquiries accurately and effectively
  • Refer customers to other sources of information, guidance or advice where appropriate, ensuring referrals are made in such a way as to help customers take action • Provide follow-up support to customers
  • Deliver services in line with SLA’ performance, quality and impact standards
  • Contribute to ongoing service development ensuring that the support we provide meets the evolving needs of people affected by and living with cancer
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of cancer related services and social services
  • Maximise the collection of data on customer records in accordance with agreed standards of documentation and data protection
  • Be responsible for maintaining awareness of current topical cancer issues including wider Macmillan developments, and understanding the implications of these for customers of the service
  • Provide advocacy for customers undertaking casework as required
