International Day of Older Persons

On 2 October, Advice NI Supporting Active Engagement team joined the celebration of International Day of Older Persons event in the Maldron Hotel hosted by our member Apex.

Advice NI actively promotes the need to recognize the contributions of older persons and to examine issues that affect their lives. Through Supporting Active Engagement, a digital inclusion and benefit uptake project, funded by The Big Lottery; and Building Resilience In Retirement, funded by the Money Advice Service, a digital inclusion project aiming to increase financial capability, we focus on enabling older persons to use internet and to access information on their rights and entitlements as well as engage in society through social media and forums.

Advice NI maintains two websites for older persons: http://www.rights4seniors.net and http://www.popni.net. Furthermore, through ICT training, we encourage older persons to use https://www.resolver.co.uk, a free online tool for complaints.

Our above projects, continue to engage older persons through volunteering opportunities, ICT training and other events and foras.

We were proud to take part in the International Day of Older Persons, to celebrate older persons contributions, to share their achievements through our project involvement and to ensure continuity of working in partnership with our members and other agencies to tackle loneliness and social isolation of older persons.
