Charity of the Year

Advice NI Announces Assisi Animal Sanctuary as it's 2019 Charity of the Year

With all votes counted and tallied Advice NI are delighted to announce that staff have voted for Assisi Animal Sanctuary as it's charity of the year for 2019.

Assisi is Northern Ireland’s largest independent welfare charity and can provide care and rescue for over 2,000 animals every year. The current sanctuary at Conlig is no longer fit for purpose and fundraising is now underway to build a state-of-the-art care facility for animals.

Spearheading this project is the charity’s first ever CEO, Nigel Mason who brings with him a proven track-record of expanding animal welfare charities.

Speaking at the announcement, Advice NI CEO Bob Stronge said:
“At Advice NI we are keen to support small, local charities and Assisi fits the bill perfectly. Many of our members are pet owners and some of those pets were rehomed from Assisi.
It can be easy to forget our four-legged friends but Assisi does fantastic work on a shoestring. We hope that our fundraising will help to get Assisi on the way to their target for the new building.
There are so many ways to help a local charity like Assisi, from volunteering time to walk dogs and take part in street collections, to taking part in our own fundraising at the Advice NI office.
Our Be Inspired team are busy thinking up all sorts of activities to raise funds and awareness. They will include everything from a 10,000 steps a day challenge to taking part in the Belfast City Marathon.”

The Advice NI team have already started supporting their new cause with a meat-free lunch event and a Pancake Day event kicking off the fundraising efforts. They even donate more than 20 bags of clothes and a two-piece suite to the Assisi charity shop based in Bangor. They’ll continue throughout the year with events such as pub quizzes, site visits and street collections.

If you would like to support Advice NI’s fundraising for Assisi Animal Sanctuary then you can donate through their JustGiving page here.

Each year Assisi rescues dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs and provide them with the best in modern veterinary care.

With animal welfare at the core of everything they do, all animals at the sanctuary are neutered, vaccinated, wormed and de-fleaed. The charity also operates a strict No Kill policy ensuring that only those animals experiencing severe pain or terminal illness are put down.
All donations of money, food, blankets and even old newspapers are welcome at Assisi which is based at Conlig, Newtownards. If you have a few hours to spare then the charity are always looking for a few volunteers to spare some team each week. There’s something for everyone from cleaning out kennels to cuddling cats.
