Advice NI Members Day - February 2018
The future of Money and Debt Advice in Northern Ireland
The latest Advice NI Members’ day was held on Wednesday 7th February at the Willowgrove Centre, North Belfast. The day brought together an exciting line up of speakers and received great feedback from our members with around 40 attendees taking part in the activities during the day.
The theme of the event was ‘The future of Money and Debt Advice in Northern Ireland’ and provided our members with an update on the developments in relation to delivering independent Debt Advice and Financial Capability services in Northern Ireland over the coming years. Attendees were provided with information on the future funding structures and how they can begin to prepare in delivering these services.
After an update of our membership work from Arfawn Yasin (Head of Membership Services) we heard from Janine Maher (Northern Ireland Manager, Money Advice Service (MAS)) who provided the attendees with an overview of how the relationship between MAS and the Department for Communities (DfC) will develop in terms of Debt and Financial Capability. Elaine Downey and Harry Armstrong (Advice Services Team, Voluntary and Community Division, DfC) provided an update on what will be happening over the next year to prepare for the implementation of the debt strategy in Northern Ireland. After a quick Q&A session, Louisa McKee (Advice NI, Training and Development Practitioner), provided the attendees with a talk about the support and training packages that Advice NI can offer in order to help you prepare to deliver money and debt services.
After lunch, attendees broke up into 3 workshops, facilitated by Sinead Campbell (Advice NI, Head of Money, Debt and Quality), to discuss a number of questions.
