Advice NI Honours its Volunteers With Special Event
To mark Volunteers Week 2019, Advice NI hosted an event especially for Volunteers from across the Independent Advice Network. This event took place in June at the new Springfield Charitable Association (SCA) premises in Clonard Crescent, Belfast.
Volunteers' Week which takes place in the first week in June each year and is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of volunteering in all sectors. This week is an opportunity to thank all volunteers who give up their time to help others.
As an organisation committed to the vision of a confident, informed society of active citizens who can access their rights and entitlements, Advice NI recognises the invaluable contribution of Volunteers across the Independent Advice Network. Volunteer contribution enables us to extend our services across the community, enriching the lives of those who would otherwise not be able access social events, training and other gatherings.
Speakers included Gerard O’Neill and Rita Turley from SCA and Gavin Ferris and Cynthia Gordon from Advice NI. The event was hosted by Laura McDonald, Advice NI’s Volunteer Co-ordinator.
After the presentations participants mingled over a hot lunch and finished the day with a specially-made cake, celebrating volunteer achievements.
Recently, Advice NI Volunteers were asked for their feedback in relation to their volunteering activities. Their comments included:
“Seeing that you help to make a difference to people’s lives through the support you provide and how vital a roll you play really inspires and drives you to carry on”.
“The experience gives Volunteers confidence. Sometimes we even socialise together”.
“I would say it is never too late to become a Volunteer. It teaches you new skills and you may even discover skills and talents you didn’t know you had.
“Volunteering helps you meet new people try new things and often leads to employment”.
“Each day is different and can be very challenging but knowing you are making a positive difference is very rewarding”.
The morning was a lovely opportunity to come together to highlight Volunteers Week, to recognize Advice NI’s special Volunteers and provide a firm foundation for future events.
