Advice NI is a membership organisation that exists to promote, support and develop the independent advice sector across Northern Ireland.
Advice NI members offer free, independent, quality advice which is impartial, non-judgemental and respectful of the person's dignity. If giving advice is part of your organisation's work and you meet our membership criteria, you can join us to avail of our membership services.
Facts and Figures 2006/07
Advice NI members dealt with over 213,970 enquires from more than 110,302 members of the public across Northern Ireland. Most of these enquiries were from social security benefit recipients requiring information, advice and representation.
Advice NI members provided representation at 722 tribunals (385 disability, 337 social security). Of these 403 or 56% were allowed enabling claimants to access benefit entitlements which had previously been denied to them.
Advice NI worked in partnership with the Social Security Agency in benefit uptake work which resulted in an additional £6 million of benefits being paid to some of the most vulnerable people in Northern Ireland.
A similar partnership with Northern Ireland Electricity led to 1,020 holistic Benefit Entitlement Checks with approximately 44% of those targeted receiving additional benefits.
