An information session for the Specialist Advisory Forum which will be established by March 2008 was held on 4th December 2007 at the Department for Social Development's offices in Belfast. Minutes of this meeting and a list of attendees are available.

The Advice Service Alliance (ASA), comprising Advice NI, Citizens Advice and the Law Centre Northern Ireland, met with the Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie, Autumn 2007, to discuss the implementation of the Department’s advice and information strategy: Opening Doors.  Terms of reference have been agreed for 3 working groups (IT, Quality and Training) made up of representatives of the ASA. Each of these working groups will produce a report by March 2008 which will be circulated to all key stakeholders for comment.

Specialist advice providers within Advice NI's membership most often focus their service on a specific issue (e.g. disability, lone parenting, mental health, etc) or target their services towards a specific group of clients (e.g. older people, women, ex-prisoners, etc.). These organisations may be locally based or provide services across Northern Ireland. Advice NI's members cover all nine dimensions of equality under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
