Students Benefit from New Finances

Advice NI recently facilitated an information session between NUS USI and Money Advisers. The purpose of the information session was to inform participants of the changes to the finance arrangements due to come into effect in 06-07 academic year. John Caldwell, Student Finance Adviser at NUS USI gave an overview of the main changes;

  • A new loan will be available for eligible full time students to cover tuition fees.
  • A new non-repayable Maintenance Grant of up to £3,200 a year will be available for new full-time students from lower income households studying at colleges or universities in the U.K.
  • A new non-repayable Special Support Grant of up to £3,200 a year will be available for new full-time students who may be eligible to receive benefits such as Income Support or Housing Benefit while they are studying.
