I claimed TC from Cumbernauld IR after asking local IR if I was entitled.  They said I was entitled single person, working more than 30 hours and earning less than £15K.  I picked up £76.27 for 3 mths, then a letter came from Cornwall IR to say I was not entitled, so I stopped.  I wrote to them and asked how I was to pay this back but no reply.  I have received several other letters from different IR asking for bank details as they need to put money into my account, these letters I have ignored.  Nearly 2 yrs later I have rec'd a demand letter from Cumbernauld IR asking for £228.83.  I phoned Helpline and asked if I could appeal, she said no as I had received the money and to talk to Payment Helpline to make arrangements to pay it back, this I have done.  IR are meant to be trained personnel and therefore know if you are entitled or not, if they have it wrong then I believe it is therefore their fault and we shouldn't be punished for their errors.
